Initial Oral Examination
Your initial evaluation in our office includes a visual examination, an oral cancer check, computer charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations. Sometimes we will even take digital photographs of areas of concern, and will identify potential orthodontic needs for both young and older patients. To meet the Dental Standard of Care which we subscribe to, we will also take x-rays: a panolipse film, and a full mouth series of radiographs...18-20 smaller inside-the-mouth films, which enable us to look in-between the teeth and around the teeth for such thing as periodontal disease, endodontic concerns, and irregular toot development/eruption.

For patients whose dental needs warrant such, we typically complete a preventive cleaning visit at that first visit. Some patients require treatment far beyond a "preventive cleaning," so for those patients, we may elect to complete a debridment procedure, then schedule for appropriate follow-up treatment. This could involve active periodontal therapy or a second preventive cleaning visit, but is highly dependent upon what patients present with at the time of their initial visit.

Simple toothaches can often be relieved by rinsing the mouth to clear it of debris and other matter. Sometimes, a toothache can be caused or aggravated by a piece of debris lodged between the tooth and another tooth.
